Equity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression

Our Commitment
Blooming Rose Reiki is a queer, neurodivergent-owned spiritual wellness practice located in Toronto, operating on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Anishinaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, within Treaty 13 territory. We recognize that wellness spaces have not always been equally accessible, welcoming or respectful of the communities they serve or the cultural traditions they draw from. This policy exists as a living commitment to building a practice where people of all identities, bodies, abilities, backgrounds and beliefs can access care without having to earn their place. This commitment is reflected not only in what we say, but in how we design our sessions, communicate with clients and continue learning as a practice.
Scope
This policy applies to all interactions connected to Blooming Rose Reiki, including:
In-person sessions
Virtual sessions
Email, phone and social media communication
Website content and educational resources
Workshops, events and collaborations
Referral and partnership relationships
Everyone is Welcome Here - Non-Discrimination
Blooming Rose Reiki does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, ethnicity, national or Indigenous origin, ancestry, religion, spiritual belief or practice, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, neurodivergence, mental health status, body size, immigration status, socioeconomic background or any other ground protected under the Ontario Human Rights Code or the Canadian Human Rights Act. All clients are entitled to receive services with equal care, respect and quality of attention. Service will not be refused, modified or offered on differential terms on the basis of any of the above grounds. Sliding scale pricing and financial accessibility options are available. Clients from equity-deserving communities are encouraged to reach out at hello@bloomingrosereiki.com to explore what may be possible.
How We Put Inclusion Into Practice
Creating an inclusive practice requires more than welcoming language. It means designing experiences that recognise people have different bodies, histories, identities and ways of moving through the world.
At Blooming Rose Reiki this includes:
Trauma-informed, consent-led sessions where nothing happens without your knowledge and agreement
Hands-above Reiki available at any time, with no explanation required
Sensory adaptations, including adjustments to lighting, scent and sound
Neurodivergent-friendly communication and flexible intake options
Respect for every client's cultural background, spiritual beliefs and personal boundaries
The option to communicate needs in writing before your appointment
Sliding scale pricing to help reduce financial barriers where capacity allows
No assumptions are made about what wellness, spirituality or healing should look like for you. Every session is shaped collaboratively around your individual needs.
Respect for Cultural Traditions
Blooming Rose Reiki is committed to practising with respect for the cultures and communities from which our work originates. Usui Reiki is acknowledged as a Japanese healing practice developed by Mikao Usui. Where sessions incorporate concepts from other traditions—such as meditation, chakra systems or other contemplative practices—their cultural origins are acknowledged and never presented as our own.
This commitment also extends beyond language.
A portion of monthly revenue is donated to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in recognition of Reiki's cultural origins and to Native Child and Family Services of Toronto in recognition of the Indigenous communities whose lands this practice operates upon.
We recognise that cultural respect is an ongoing responsibility rather than a completed achievement and remain committed to continued learning, accountability and thoughtful practice.
Anti-Harassment & Safety
Blooming Rose Reiki is committed to maintaining a practice environment free from harassment of any kind. Harassment is understood as any unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect of violating a person's dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment.
This includes but is not limited to:
● Verbal, written or digital conduct that demeans, intimidates or threatens
● Sexual harassment, including unwanted comments, advances or requests
● Harassment on the basis of any protected ground listed above, including harassment directed at queer, trans, nonbinary, bisexual, Two-Spirit or any 2SLGBTQI+ person
● Repeated unwanted contact or communication following a session
● Any conduct that causes a client or practitioner to feel unsafe, disrespected or violated
This practice maintains the right to refuse or discontinue services to any individual whose conduct constitutes harassment, and to report conduct to relevant authorities where required. This protection extends to all clients, collaborators and anyone interacting with this practice in any capacity.
Anti-Racism
Blooming Rose Reiki is explicitly anti-racist. Racism operates at individual, institutional and systemic levels, and the wellness industry has historically centred whiteness in who it serves, whose practices it profits from and whose knowledge it recognizes as legitimate. This practice is committed to actively naming and working against that history rather than reproducing it.
In practice this means:
● The cultural and spiritual origins of every practice offered here are acknowledged honestly and publicly
● Financial barriers to access are actively reduced for Black, Indigenous, racialized and equity-deserving clients through sliding scale pricing
● A portion of monthly revenue is donated to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and Native Child and Family Services of Toronto as ongoing material commitments to the communities this practice benefits from
● Racist language, behaviour or conduct will not be tolerated in any interaction connected to this practice, and services may be refused or discontinued where this occurs
● This practice commits to ongoing education, accountability and willingness to be corrected
Anti-Oppression
Blooming Rose Reiki operates through an anti-oppression lens, which means actively working to recognize and address the ways systems of power and privilege shape who can access care, who feels safe receiving it and whose experiences are treated as valid.
Oppression takes many forms including but not limited to racism, anti-Indigenous racism, ableism, sanism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, fatphobia, classism, ageism, xenophobia and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. These systems do not operate in isolation. They intersect and compound one another, and the people most impacted are often those navigating multiple forms simultaneously.
This practice does not claim to be free from the influence of these systems. It does commit to ongoing reflection, accountability and structural change where possible within its scope.
This commitment is reflected in how sessions are designed and facilitated:
● All sessions are trauma-informed, consent-driven and built around the individual's relationship with their body, identity and belief system
● No assumptions are made about a client's spiritual framework, cultural background or relationship to wellness
● Sessions are neurodivergent-friendly by design, with sensory adaptations available throughout
● Nothing happens to a client without their full awareness and consent
● Financial barriers to access are actively addressed through sliding scale and accessibility pricing
Zero-Tolerance: 2SLGBTQIA+ Safety
Blooming Rose Reiki is a queer-owned, explicitly 2SLGBTQI+-affirming practice. This is not a neutral space. It is an actively welcoming one.
Discrimination, harassment or derogatory conduct toward 2SLGBTQI+ people, including but not limited to trans, nonbinary, queer, bisexual and Two-Spirit individuals, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This applies to all clients, collaborators and anyone interacting with this practice in any capacity.
Services will be immediately refused or discontinued where conduct is discriminatory or unsafe toward any 2SLGBTQI+ person. Incidents may be reported to relevant authorities where appropriate.
All clients are welcomed and addressed according to their stated identity and pronouns. No disclosure of identity is ever required to receive care.
2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion
Clients are invited to share their pronouns at any time. All communications and session language will be adapted to reflect a client's stated preferences and identity. No aspect of a client's identity ever needs to be disclosed or explained to receive full and equal care.
Accessibility
Blooming Rose Reiki is committed to reducing barriers wherever reasonably possible while recognising that every access need is different.
Current accommodations include:
Sensory adaptations, including lighting, scent and sound adjustments
Hands-above Reiki for those who prefer not to receive touch
Seated session options where appropriate
Written follow-up notes after appointments
The option to share information in writing before your session
Flexible intake conversations designed to reduce pressure and anticipatory anxiety
Our clinic space is located on an upper level with stairs and is not currently wheelchair accessible. Where physical accessibility presents a barrier, virtual services may be available depending on the service requested.
Clients are encouraged to communicate any access needs in advance by reaching out at hello@bloomingrosereiki.com. Additional accommodations will be explored wherever possible.
Raising Concerns
If you experience or witness discrimination, harassment or conduct that conflicts with this policy, we encourage you to let us know. Concerns can be raised by emailing hello@bloomingrosereiki.com.
Reports will be treated seriously, handled respectfully and responded to as promptly as possible. Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith will not be tolerated.
Where appropriate, individuals will also be informed of external complaint processes available under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
A Living Commitment
Policies alone do not create inclusive spaces. People do.
This document is intended to support the ongoing work of building a practice that is thoughtful, accountable and responsive to the communities it serves. As our understanding grows, this policy will continue to evolve alongside it.
Questions, feedback and suggestions are always welcome at hello@bloomingrosereiki.com.
These commitments are not a destination. They are a direction. I hold myself to the same standard I ask of the spaces I build.
