My Story - What brought me back to Reiki, divination and spirituality after a decade of corporate life.
Hi, I'm Bridgette. If you’re curious about how I got here or who exactly I am, here’s a bit more about me. If you want the slightly more adventurous version, there are more nuggets of that in this post.
First off, Blooming Rose Reiki didn't begin as a business idea or a fun hobby.
It was a return home.
I was born into a family where Reiki, intuition and energy work weren't unusual, they were a normalized part of everyday life. My mum is a Reiki Master Teacher, Yogi and psychic, and those practices stretch back through multiple generations on my maternal side. Visiting meditation temples, exploring holistic practices and talking about energy were woven into my childhood long before I understood they were “unusual” experiences or formed any “woo woo bias” toward non westernized wellness modalities.
Like many people, though, I needed to find my own path.
For years I stepped away from the spiritual wellness world and built a career in academia, design, nonprofit leadership and diversity, equity and inclusion. As a queer, neurodivergent woman living with disabilities and a nonlinear mental health journey with a string of burnouts and workplace trauma, I became deeply interested in inclusion work and human rights, not just in workplaces, but in every space people are expected to belong.
Eventually I realized something.
The barriers I was helping organizations remove were the same barriers I kept encountering in wellness spaces.
I started to notice that, like corporate businesses, many holistic practices assumed everyone experienced the world the same way. Not with any ill intentions per say, but unchecked bias and sheltered experience.
So many overlooked consent.
So many overlooked sensory needs.
Too many expected people to leave parts of themselves at the door to receive care that felt safe.
Blooming Rose Reiki grew from wanting to create the kind of practice I wished already existed.
Every session is built around curiosity instead of assumptions.
Ongoing consent instead of expectation.
Accessibility instead of accommodation as an afterthought where possible.
You're never expected to fit yourself into my process.
The process is shaped around you. :)
Professionally, I'm certified and trained as a Usui Reiki Practitioner through all three levels and recognized by the Canadian Reiki Association, as well as a certified Spiritual Coach. I'm also a Meditation Teacher on Insight Timer and continue to work as a diversity, equity and inclusion consultant.
Personally, I continue reconnecting with my own ancestral traditions.
Through my Euro-Celtic maternal lineage I inherited practices of intuition, cartomancy and mediumship shared through generations of family experience.
Through my Persian heritage I continue exploring mysticism, poetry, ritual and divination traditions.
For now, I’ve placed those services on my very first brand, Akashic Daughter. But they are all bookable through the Jane App bookings link, conducted at the same spaces, and treated with the same level of care, consent and communication.
At the same time, I remain deeply committed to respecting the cultural origins of every modality I practice as well as the lands in which I’m fortunate to practice on.
Usui Reiki originates from Japan.
Meditation has roots across many cultures and spiritual lineages.
When I draw from traditions outside my own heritage and borrowed land, I do so with acknowledgement, respect and continual learning rather than claiming them as my own. As well as giving a percentage of my sales back to the communities I benefit from in step with my growth. At this time, that includes the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and NCFST. I look forward to growing this list as I can afford to do so.
You can learn more about my commitments to equity and inclusion on the About page which I am continually improving as I myself continue to learn, unlearn and relearn.
My hope isn't simply that you leave feeling relaxed.
It's that you leave feeling like you never had to shrink yourself to receive care. And if there is something I can do to make that experience more accessible to you, that you please let me know.
I'm looking forward to meeting you. :)
